Home Projects

This may not be an addiction, but certainly something I enjoy. I am not sure if I enjoy the work so much as the reward of finishing a project. It is a type of problem solving that is so different than many of the pure mental challenges that communications professionals face when predicting the behavior of their audiences.

Anyway... I did not grow up in a household where I learned any of these skills. My dad owned about ten tools and thought professionals should be hired to do any type of project around the house. But the challenge of learning these skills (and saving a few bucks) was the attractive factor for me. I have to give my wife some credit here as she is always game to dig into a new uncharted project with me.

I have done almost any home remodeling job that you can think of and over the last two years I worked with my brother to add a large addition to his house and completely remodel it. The ouside was completely redone with new windows, siding, soffit, roof, and some major carpentry projects. On the inside, the additional space allowed for a complete remodel of the entire living level of the house. I hope to add some photos of this project soon.

My dream project will be to build my own home... and yes, I do mean build it... maybe subcontract out some of the nasty bits, but otherwise I would do all the work with the help of my family.
