Elements and Principles of Design
The elements and principles of design will be central to every assignment in this course. These elements and principles are the tools an artist uses to communicate feelings and ideas visually. They are applicable to all of the visual arts - whether you are a painter, sculptor, architect, choreographer ...or using a computer.
I will ask to write about your usage of the elements and principles of design in each assignment. Basically, I'll ask you to articulate:
-the feeling or idea that you want to express and communicate - ie. what is the visual message or impact of your work
-how are you meaningfully using line, shape, value, color,
texture, proportion, unity-variety, balance, direction and emphasis to communicate your thoughts. |
