Research Interests
My primary research specialty is the Supreme Court in 19th century politics. For example, here is the manuscript of an Article from the Illinois Political Science Review, Vol. 11, No. 6 (Spring 2007):
"Judicial Activism in the Post-Civil War Era: The Railroad Bond Cases"
I have enjoyed doing interdisciplinary work throughout my career. Here is a link to a piece that makes connections between French literature and political theory: "No Bad Genres: The Undisciplined Disciples of the French Enlightenment"
As a liberal arts teacher and scholar, my interests are not confined to a specialization. Personally, I think my best professional writing comes in the form of reviews for the Law and Politics Book Review in which I try to engage with scholars in the very diverse field of legal studies.
