"What is taking place in America is a war against the child.  And if we accept that the mother can kill her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?"

January 22, 2006: 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions

A bit about Roe v. Wade:

Roe v. Wade (7-2 [Rehnquist and White dissenting]) decided that the right to an abortion falls under the 14th Amendment (citing the right to "privacy").  It covers the right to an abortion within the first trimester and allows regulation or a ban by the state government on abortions after viability of the fetus, unless the woman's life is in danger.  The decision of whether or not a woman needs an abortion is left up to the physician.

A bit about Doe v. Bolton

Doe v. Bolton (7-2 [Rehnquist and White dissenting]) decided that abortions would be legal from 6 months to birth.  This decision restricts the amount of say that the state has in limiting abortions.  It allows for the decision of whether or not the abortion is necessary, to be left up to the physician.  The criteria include age, physical, mental, emotional, and familial states.
