Adam of Bremen, Gesta Hammaburgensis Ecclesiae Pontificum
In the second half of the 11th century, Adam of Bremen wrote an account of the history of the archbishopric of Hamburg-Bremen, including a great deal of information about Scandinavia throughout. He spent some time with the Danish king Sven Estridsen, from whom he related many details about the king's ancestry and Danish history, among other things (see under "Documents from Denmark" for a compilation of these "fragments").
