2008-09 Season - Jenna Richardson named "Most Valuable Player" for Viking women's tennis team


ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Sophomore Jenna Richardson (Melrose Park Walther Lutheran HS, Bellwood, Ill.) was selected as the “Most Valuable Player” for the Augustana College women’s tennis team for the 2007-08 season, it was announced at the team’s postseason banquet.  Freshman Sheri Hendricks (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Warrenville, Ill.) was named “Most Improved” while sophomore Emily Doemland (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) claimed the “Most Inspirational” award.  Freshman Tricia Sapio (Barrington HS, Barrington, Ill.) earned “Newcomer of the Year” honors.


The women’s tennis team, under second year head coach Adam Strand, finished the season with an overall record of 13-10 and a 4-2 mark in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.  The team finished in third place at the CCIW tennis tournament.


Richardson was 18-11 in her sophomore season while sharing the number one singles position with fellow sophomore Tricia Crawford (Decorah HS, Decorah, Iowa) in the fall and playing all of her matches in the top spot this spring.  She was a second team CCIW All-Conference selection and placed fourth in the number two singles flight at the conference tournament.  Richardson has 36 career singles victories in just two seasons at Augustana.


Hendricks was 5-5 in singles action and 11-9 in doubles in her freshman season with the Vikings.  She played mostly at number six singles and number three doubles.  Hendricks teamed with Sapio for a 6-7 mark in doubles play.


Doemland was 13-13 in singles playing most of her matches at number four singles.  She also finished 10-18 in doubles, including a 9-18 mark with Crawford at number one doubles.  She finished third in the number four singles flight at the conference tournament.


Sapio was 5-7 in singles and 9-8 in doubles as a freshman for Augustana.  She moved into the number five singles position for most of the spring and played most of her matches at number three doubles.
