Vikings picked for fourth in CCIW football poll

All-conference performer Kyle Snow and the Augustana Vikings were picked for fourth in the 2013 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin pre-season coaches' poll.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - After winning four of its last five games last year to finish 5-5 overall and 4-3 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, Augustana has been picked for fourth place in the 2013 pre-season football coaches poll. The Vikings picked up 28 points to finish just ahead of fifth place Elmhurst, which was 10-2 and 6-1 a year ago.

North Central (9-3, 6-1 in 2012) was tabbed as the favorite to win its eighth straight CCIW title. The Cardinals had 47 points and five first place votes. The poll was announced in conjunction with the CCIW's fifth annual coaches' chat on August 7.  

Wheaton (8-2, 6-1) was second in the poll with 45 points and three first place votes after sharing the league title last year with North Central and Elmhurst. Illinois Wesleyan (6-4, 3-4), a team Augustana beat 22-7 on November 3 in Bloomington, Illinois last year, was third  with 35 points.  

Millikin (5-5, 2-5) with 20 points, Carthage (3-7, 1-6) with 15 points and North Park (1-9, 0-7) with seven points rounded out the pre-season poll.  

The Vikings open the 2013 season on Saturday, September 7 against Mount St. Joseph in the new Lindberg Stadium. Kickoff for that night will be 6:15 p.m.
