Vikings ranked 14th in Central Region

It has been all "thumbs up" for Jon Miedema and the Augustana men's tennis team of late. The Vikings are 8-4 in dual matches this season and are currently ranked 14th in the Central Region according to ITA's most recent poll.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - The Augustana men's tennis team is currently ranked 14th in the NCAA Division III's Central Region according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's most recent poll. The Vikings are currently 8-4 in dual meets, with a 2-1 record against regional opponents.

Augustana started the season on a roll, putting together a four match win streak. The Vikings defeated Wabash 7-2 on February 2 and overpowered Franklin College 9-0 later that same day. On February 9, the Vikings beat St. Norbert 8-1 and narrowly edged Luther, currently ranked 15th in the Central Region, by a score of 5-4.  

During spring break, Augustana travelled to Orlando, Florida for a week of competition. On February 24, the Vikings incurred their first loss of the season, falling to NCAA Division I Mt. St. Mary's 7-0. Despite suffering its first defeat, Augustana bounced back to trounce Alma 9-0. The Vikings then endure back to back defeats, first narrowly losing to Capital 5-4 on February 25, and then falling to Davenport 8-1 the next day. Augustana bounced back with a 9-0 victory over Hanover on February 26, and concluded its trip with a 6-3 victory over Concordia-Moorhead.  

Since returning from Florida, the Vikings have gone 1-1, with their lone loss coming at 13th ranked Grinnell on March 9 by a score of 7-2. Augustana defeated Nebraska Wesleyan by a score of 7-2 on later that same day. The Vikings next match will be against Coe College, currently ranked ninth in the Central Region, on March 16 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
