Vikings move to 3-2 with win over Loras

Freshman Kendall Maduro had two goals and two assists in Augustana's 21-0 win over Loras at Thorson-Lucken Field Saturday.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.-A dozen Augustana players scored goals Saturday as the Vikings improved to 3-2 this season with a 21-0 win over Loras at Thorson-Lucken Field. The Duhawks, 0-1, were playing the first game in the history of their program. The game was originally to be played in Dubuque, Iowa, but was moved to Rock Island because of snow.

Seven different Vikings found the net as the hosts jumped out in front 7-0 in the game's first five minutes. Sophomore Kelly Stelzer (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.), who scored the team's first goal of the day, was the first Augustana player with multiple goals. She scored her second of the game at the 24:45 mark of the first half and added her third at 19:06 to put the Vikings up 10-0.  

Augustana extended the lead to 17-0 at halftime. Freshman Kendall Maduro (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore Allie Roehrenbeck (Columbus Academy, Gahanna, Ohio) each scored back-to-back goals in the period.  

Stelzer added her fourth goal of the day in the second half to lead the Vikings. She also had an assist for a team-high five points. Coach Sara Tisdale got two goals each from Roehrenbeck, Maduro, sophomores Nattali Shelton (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and Kelly Molloy (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and freshmen Rebecca Pollard (Westfield HS, Carmel, Ind.) and Shelby Cosman (Marian Catholic HS, St. John, Ind.). Sophomores Christian Letmanksi (Glenbard West HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and Hilary Kargl (Sacred Heart Academy, Louisville, Ky.) each found the net once, as did freshmen Quinn Foley (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.), Kaylee Nolan (Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) and Emily Handrahan (Lake Zurich HS, Hawthorn Woods, Ill.).  

Handrahan delivered a team-high three assists with Kargl, Nolan, Maduro and Pollard dishing out two each.  

Viking sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Osier (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) improved to 2-2 with the win.  

Augustana is back in action on Saturday, March 16, hosting Adrian in a 1:00 p.m. contest at Thorson-Lucken Field.
