Dratnol, Westerberg make Academic All-District team

Junior offensive center Eric Dratnol was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team in football on Thursday.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Two Augustana football players were named to the first team of the Capital One Academic All-District team, it was announced today. Junior linebacker Erik Westerberg (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) and junior offensive center Eric Dratnol (Kaneland HS, Montgomery, Ill.) earned the honors in District Seven, which includes Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Westerberg and Dratnol will now be advanced to the national ballot where they will attempt to add to Augustana's prodigious total of Academic All-Americans. Since the AAA program began in 1951, Augustana has produced 139 honorees which places the Vikings sixth all-time. Augustana is currently second among NCAA Division III institutions.

Westerberg was a second team Academic All-American a year ago and he has been the ringleader for the Vikings' defense this season. He has 63 solo tackles and 50 assisted tackles for a total of 113. He leads the CCIW in total tackles and is seventh in the nation in solos. He has four quarterback sacks and 14 tackles for loss with one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception.

A year ago he was a first team all-conference selection and was named to the all-region team. He is a team captain this year and was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin "Player of the Week" earlier this season. A math major, Westerberg carries a 3.87 grade point average and is the son of Peter and Annette Westerberg of Elmhurst, Illinois.

Dratnol has been a season-long starter at center and has been a big reason why the Augustana rushing attack has come to life during a recent four-game winning streak. The Vikings are averaging 176.4 yards per game on the ground and 152.9 through the air. Twice this season (on October 6 at Elmhurst and October 20 at North Park) they have gone over the 300 yard mark rushing. Augustana is third in the CCIW in rushing with an average of 204.5 yards per game in six league contests.

Dratnol is an accounting and applied math major with a 3.83 grade point average. He is the son of David and Phyllis Dratnol of Montgomery, Illinois.

Augustana is currently 5-4 on the season and 4-2 in the CCIW heading into the final game of the season on Saturday, November 10 at home against North Central.
