Vikings go undefeated at Pumpkin Bash

Senior middle blocker Sarah Williams was named to the all-tournament team at this year's Pumpkin Bash. Williams helped the Vikings win all 12 sets they played in the tournament.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Augustana picked up straight set wins over Iowa Wesleyan and Principia Saturday to complete play in the Pumpkin Bash at Carver Center. The Vikings won all 12 sets in their four matches this weekend and finished the tournament in second place, losing out to also-undefeated Wartburg on tiebreaker criteria. Coach Jamie Walters' club is now 20-10 on the year.

Sophomore outside hitter Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) was named tournament MVP and senior middle blocker Sarah Williams (Rockford Lutheran HS, Loves Park, Ill.) joined her on the all-tournament team.

AUGUSTANA 3, IOWA WESLEYAN 0 (25-23; 25-18; 25-17) 

After pulling out a tight win 25-23 in the opening set, Augustana took the next two against the Tigers, 25-18 and 25-17, respectively.

Leazer led the way with 21 kills and added 10 digs and a pair of service aces. Freshman Martha Murray (Evanston Township HS, Evanston, Ill.) added nine kills and sophomore Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) eight. Freshman setter Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) recorded 40 assists and freshman libero Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) had a team-high 16 digs.

AUGUSTANA 3, PRINCIPIA 0 (26-24; 25-19; 25-18)

For the third straight match, the Vikings won a tight opening set 26-24 and then went on to more comfortable margins in the next two, 25-19 and 25-18 over Principia.

Leazer again led the attack with 11 kills and half a dozen aces. Murray added nine kills. They were aided by 28 assists from Hampel. Siebert had three aces as well.

Siebert and Leazer joined sophomore Julee Morrison (Chaparral HS, Scottsdale, Ariz.) with 13 digs each to lead the defensive effort. Hampel chipped in with 11 digs, while sophomore Samantha Kammerman (Sherrard HS, Milan, Ill.) had a pair of solo blocks and one block assist.
