Augustana now seventh in Midwest Region

The Augustana women's cross country team fell one spot in the new Midwest Regional poll. The Vikings are currently ranked seventh.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - With a strong showing at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Friday, September 21 in Rock Island, Illinois, the Augustana women's cross country team remains in the top 10 of the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional ranking. The Vikings of veteran head coach Fred Whiteside check in at seventh in the third week of the rankings, which are conducted by the US Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.

Augustana placed third in a very competitive field at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational. Augustana senior Sarahbeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) led the way for the Vikings by taking the individual title. Junior Kate Benge (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa), senior Kirstillyn Pohlman (Zion Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) and junior Kristyn Barton (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) all finished in the top 35 individuals as well.

Washington University is the number one ranked in the region with Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Chicago, Illinois Wesleyan, Wisconsin-LaCrosse and Wisconsin-Stevens Point checking in ahead of Augustana. Carthage, Wheaton and Monmouth round out the top 10.

The Vikings will travel to Wheaton, Illinois to participate in the College of DuPage Invitational on Friday, September 28.
