2012 Season - Harrell takes CCIW long jump title

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Freshman Torre Harrell (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) won the long jump competition on the first day of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championships on May 4 in Bloomington, Illinois. Harrell's victory helped Augustana move into second place in the team standings with 53.50 points.
The Vikings, currently ranked fourth in the latest NCAA Division III dual meet poll, trail defending champion, and fourth ranked North Central in the team race. The Cardinals haave 107 points. Carthage is a distant third with 21.5 while Wheaton is fourth with 17 and North Park fifth with 11. Elmhurst (10), Illinois Wesleyan (7) and Millikin (7) round out the field.
Harrell recorded a leap of 23' 0 1/2" to take first in the long jump while junior teammate Jacob O'Rourke (Davenport Assumption HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) was fourth at 20' 10".
Senior Adam Myers (Dixon HS, Dixon, Ill.) finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 185' 6" while senior Brian Benning (Winnebago HS, Winnebago, Ill.) took fourth at 176' 4" and junior Kevin Macek (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) was seventh with a toss of 157' 0".
In the 10,000, senior Mike Tisza (Hersey HS, Prospect Heights, Ill.) placed third in 31:14.9 and senior Matt Bowman (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) was fourth at 31:15.6. Junior Jonathan Smith (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) finished sixth in 31:23.5.
Junior Luke Anderson (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) placed fourth in the javelin with a toss of 170' 7" and freshman Jeff Padesky (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) was sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 14' 1 1/4". Sophomore Tyler Busch (Winnebago HS, Winnebago, Ill.) was seventh in the 3000 steeplechase with a 9:29.47 clocking.
