2011-12 Season - Bayles wins twice against Wheaton

Sophomore Kevin Bayles won at number five singles in Augustana's loss at Wheaton on April 28. He is now 19-6 overall and he picked up a win at number three doubles with partner Will Palmer as well.

WHEATON, Ill. - Still struggling with the loss of number two singles and doubles player Lawrence Palmer (Schiller International School, El Prat de Llobregat), Augustana fell to Wheaton 6-3 on Saturday, April 28 in Wheaton, Illinois. It was the second College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin loss for the Vikings in 24 hours.

First year head coach Jon Miedema's team will now head into the CCIW Tournament on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 as the number four seed. Augustana is currently 15-9 overall and 2-3 in CCIW action.

Sophomore Kevin Bayles (Homewood-Flossmoor HS, Flossmoor, Ill.) had a big day on Saturday against the Thunder. He picked up the lone Viking victory in singles competition when he defeated David Buursma 6-2; 3-6; 6-4 at number five singles to move his record to 19-6 on the year. He teamed with Will Palmer (Schiller International School, Leicester, England) at number three doubles and the duo beat Joel Parrish and Buursma 8-4.

The other Augustana win in the match came at number two doubles when junior Jack Cullen (Edgewood HS, Madison, Wis.) and sophomore Colin Arnold (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) picked up an 8-6 win against Taylor Johnson and Miles Greenwald. Cullen and Arnold are now 17-4 this season.
