The United States Navy’s official chorus from Washington, D.C., the Navy Band Sea Chanters, will give a concert on Tuesday, March 13, at 8 p.m. in Augustana College’s Centennial Hall (3703 7th Ave.). The concert is free and open to the public.

The Sea Chanters, under the leadership of Senior Chief Musician Georgina L. Todd, will perform a variety of music, ranging from traditional choral music, including sea chanteys and patriotic fare, to opera, Broadway and contemporary music.

Rita Gustafson, business manager of the Augustana performance halls and manager of the Augustana Ticket Office, has been receiving calls asking when the Sea Chanters would return to Augustana since their last performance.

“The Sea Chanters performed at Augustana several years ago,” said Gustafson. “It was a great show to a packed house, and the audience reaction was overwhelming.”

The Sea Chanters perform regularly for the U.S. president, vice president and numerous congressional, military and foreign dignitaries. They performed during Inauguration Day 2009, the memorials for the astronauts of the space shuttle Columbia, and the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance after the events of 9/11. The Sea Chanters also have performed with stars such as Perry Como, Marian Anderson, Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie.

To avoid overfilling the auditorium, tickets are required, with a limit of six per request. Those wishing to get tickets may stop by the Augustana Ticket Office, 3703 7th Ave., Rock Island, during normal business hours or send a request along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Ticket Office, and tickets will be mailed back.
