2011-12 Season - Turnovers costly in loss at North Park

Junior Gianna Pecora dropped in 15 points and pulled down four rebounds to lead Augustana in a 52-44 loss at North Park on Wednesday, February 8.

CHICAGO, Ill. - Despite a tremendous defensive effort and a solid rebounding performance, Augustana dropped a 52-44 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin decision at North Park in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, February 8. The Vikings held the host team to just .286 (16-56) shooting from the field and forged a 41-34 advantage in rebounding. They were guilty of 23 turnovers in the game and sent North Park to the free throw line 28 times.

After jumping out to a 10-5 edge just before the game reached the 10 minute mark, Augustana watched as North Park put together a 10-2 run to take a 15-12 lead with 6:50 left in the first half. At intermission North Park led 23-20 as the lead changed hands six times in the first 20 minutes.

The second half stayed close and with 7:02 left Molly Etheridge's (Normal Community HS, Bloomington, Ill.) made a conventional three point play that tied the game at 34-34. North Park scored the contest's next eight points, however, and with 1:56 left a basket by Roxanne Jones made it 42-34 in favor of the home team.

The Vikings sliced the lead to five (43-38) after a pair of Chaney Tambling (Dwight HS, Dwight, Ill.) free throws but North Park closed the game on an 8-3 run to account for the final score of 51-43.

Gianna Pecora (Downers Grove South HS, Darien, Ill.) was the only Augustana player in double figures as she scored 15 points. She also added four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Senior Natalie Runge (St. Dominic's HS, O'Fallon, Mo.) led the Vikings in rebounding with nine and she scored nine points but fouled out with 7:14 left in the game.

North Park got 22 points and six rebounds from Jones.

Augustana is now 10-12 overall and 2-9 in CCIW action and will host Elmhurst on Saturday, February 11 in a "Senior Night" game that tips off at 5:30 p.m. North Park moved to 9-13 and 3-8.
