Food Festival will celebrate cultural diversity on Feb. 4

The Augustana College Office of International Programs will celebrate cultural diversity through cuisine at the International Food Festival from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the College Center (3703 7th Ave.).

Now in its 10th year, the festival sells out quickly and attracts more than 500 guests who enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet of dishes from around the world.

Reserve tickets online or call (309) 794-7306. Tickets are $12.50 for adults, $7 for children and five meal points for Augustana students.

“The event celebrates the global diversity of our students and faculty,” said Jane Tiedge, associate director of international programs. “Food is a wonderful way to bring people together. It unites us all. Everybody loves food.”

Tiedge and other festival organizers, including Augustana dining services staff, choose 45 recipes from the home regions of Augustana’s international students. This year, these students represent more than 20 countries. The menu will offer a variety of dishes, including a new recipe to honor Augustana’s Swedish roots — rice pudding with lingonberry jam.

In celebration of the 10th year for the International Food Festival, an event cookbook titled “The Tasteful Table–Celebrating the Global Community of Augustana College,” will be available for $10. The cookbook includes dishes from the International Food Festival and from Augustana faculty, dining services and other staff, and the college’s international students.
