2011 Season - Augustana gets 3-0 win at Principia

Senior defender Brett Bleecher's first career goal got the Vikings started Tuesday night and Augustana went on to a 3-0 win at Principia.

ELSAH, Ill. - A goal from Brett Bleecher (Marist HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) in the 27th minute gave Augustana the lead Tuesday night and the Central Region's eighth-ranked team went on to a 3-0 win over Principia in Elsah, Illinois. The goal was the first of the senior defender's collegiate career and was assisted by freshman Nathan Kyes (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.).

Just four minutes later, junior midfielder Nick Wolfe (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored his first goal of the season on an assist from senior Sean Fidlow (Carmel HS, Gurnee, Ill.). Fidlow picked up another assist four minutes into the second half, getting the helper on Jason Beckus' (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) second goal of the season.

Augustana improves to 9-3-0 on the year. Principia is now 2-7-1.

The Vikings, rated eighth in the latest NSCAA Central Region rankings, outshot the Panthers 14-9 and held a 4-2 edge in corners. Freshman goalkeeper Brett Johnson (Zion Benton HS, Beach Park, Ill.) relieved starter Tyler Cowherd (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) in the first half and finished the match, recording three saves.

Coach Brenton Joseph's Vikings are next in action on Saturday, October 8, hosting Millikin as part of a CCIW men's/women's doubleheader. Start time is scheduled for noon at Thorson-Lucken Field.
