2011-12 Season - Third place at Clarke is tuneup for CCIW

Junior Morgan Wilkinson placed eighth with a score of 92 at the Clarke Fall Invitational on Sunday, October 2 as the Vikings finished third in the final tune-up prior to the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament this weekend at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport, Iowa.

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Getting ready for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament this weekend, the Augustana women’s golf team placed third in the Clarke Fall Invitational. The seven-team meet was held at Thunder Hills Golf Course in Dubuque, Iowa on Sunday, October 2.

Veteran head coach Ron Standley’s team shot 376, 12 strokes behind Mount Mercy’s winning score of 364 and just three back of Wisconsin-Platteville’s runner-up total of 373. Clarke was fourth (379), with Viterbo in fifth (387) and Iowa Wesleyan in sixth (408). The Augustana Gold team took seventh at 415.

Mount Mercy claimed the first two places individually as Bailee Goodfellow and Madison Goodfellow each recorded 87s on the par 71, 5, 889 yard layout. Kellsey Weller of Wisconsin-Platteville was third with an 88.

Leading the Augustana contingent was senior Brittany Carr (Lincoln-Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) with a 91, which was good enough for sixth place in the individual standings. Carr had a 44 on the front nine and came back with a 47. Junior Morgan Wilkinson (Westmont HS, Westmont, Ill.) placed eighth with a score of 92 (46-46).

Sophomore Dena Capitani (Hinsdale Central HS, Hinsdale, Ill.) shot a 95 (44-51) to take 13th with sophomore Kelly Farina (Normal West HS, Bloomington, Ill.) recording a 98 (48-50) in 18th place. Junior Megan Vandersee (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) had a 99 (48-51) and was 20th.

Sophomore Katelyn Lazar (Williamsville HS, Sherman, Ill.) was the top Augustana finisher on the Gold squad as she placed 11th with a score  of 93.

Augustana will host the CCIW Tournament at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport, Iowa from Thursday, October 6 through Saturday, October 8.
