2011 Season - Volleyball announces promotional schedule

The 2011 season of Augustana volleyball will feature a schedule full of promotions. The promotions are designed to create an exciting enviroment for fans to watch Viking volleyball.

The Augustana Vikings volleyball team has released its promotional schedule for the 2011 season. The promotions will help create a fun environment for fans as they come to Carver P.E. Center to watch the Vikings this season. According to head coach Jamie Walters, “One of our goals this year is to increase our fan base and we believe that our promotional schedule will help create energy and excitement in the Carver Center.”

The Vikings will open the season by hosting the Viking Classic on September 2 and 3. The weekend is Parent Weekend and the kickoff to National Campus Safety Awareness Month. Throughout the weekend tournament free volleyball posters and schedule cards will be available. Also available will be free Augustana volleyball water bottles and reflective safety lanyards, while supplies last.

The September 7 match against Concordia University Chicago will be a night of recognition. First, the Vikings will dedicate the new athletic floor in the Carver P.E. Center. Also scheduled to be recognized is Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year Grey Giovanine and the 2010-11 Augustana men’s basketball team. The Vikings advanced to the Elite Eight of last year’s NCAA basketball tournament. There will also be free Whitey’s gift certificates handed out to a limited number of fans. After the match, fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from the players and coaches of the volleyball team.

Cornell College comes to town on September 16 and the match will be Hispanic Heritage Night and Augustana Faculty and Staff night. Free koozies will be available at the door while supplies last. Post-match autographs will be available from players and coaches for fans who stick around after the match concludes.

On September 20 the Vikings will host North Park for their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin home opener. This will be Camper Reunion Day and anyone who attended the volleyball camp is invited to attend the game. Campers who wear their camp T-shirt will receive free admission into the games. Also on this night, fans will be able to purchase hot dogs and Pepsi for 50 cents each. Post-match autographs are also scheduled for this evening.

October 4 is going to be Military Night where all members of the military will receive free admission into the game by showing their military ID card. Before the match with Elmhurst, the Vikings will recognize local members of the military for their service to our country. Augustana rally towels will be available for a limited time prior to the match. After the match, players and coaches will be available for autographs.

On October 19, Augustana will host the defending CCIW champions from Millikin. This match will be Aces Against Cancer night as players will be donning pink in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer. The first 100 fans to the match will receive a free pink wristband. Also on this night, fans will receive free popcorn and Pepsi until supplies run out.

The Vikings welcome Carthage to town on October 25 for their CCIW season finale. This night will be Fan Appreciation Night and all fans will receive free admission into the match. The Vikings have also announced that this match will be a White-Out match so they are asking all fans to wear white. The first 50 fans to the match will receive an Augustana hackie sack. Hot dogs and Pepsi will once again be sold for 50 cents each. After the match, fans are invited to get autographs for the Vikings’ players and coaches.

October 29 will be Trick-R-Treat night, Alumni Day, and Senior Night as the Vikings play host to Dubuque and Webster. Prior to the Dubuque match at 1:00 p.m., there will be free candy at the door as well as free Augustana volleyball water bottles. There will also be a prize given to the fan at the game with the best Halloween costume. Prior to the 5:30 p.m. match with Webster, the Vikings will recognize and thank senior members of the team for their commitment to the program.
A couple of promotions that will be carrying over from last year are the pre-game t-shirt/mini volleyball toss as well as the in-between game serving contest for free pizza. These promotions will occur at most of the Vikings home matches during the upcoming season.
