2011 Season - Vikings win 15 events in romp over SAU

Billy TenBusch was a double winner in Augustana's 154-54 dual meet victory over St. Ambrose on Saturday, March 19 at Paul V. Olsen Track. He won the 1500 (4:08.95) and the 3000 (8:58.74).

Veteran Augustana head track & field coach Paul Olsen couldn’t have asked for much more from his team in the season opening meet of the 2011 season. His Vikings were awfully impressive in a 154-54 dual meet victory over St. Ambrose on Saturday, March 19 at Paul V. Olsen Track/Ericson Field.

Augustana won a total of 15 events, set two meet records and had a pair of athletes meet NCAA Division III qualifying in the first outdoor meet of the campaign.

Sophomore Alex Rindone (Marmion Academy, Geneva, Ill.) was a double winner, taking the 100 in :10.89 and the 200 in :21.74. His time in the 200 was both a new meet record for the Early Spring Opener and bettered the NCAA Division III qualifying standard.

Senior Patrick Zeunik (Bloomington Central Catholic HS, Bloomington, Ill.), who just one week ago placed second in the NCAA Division III indoor national meet, didn’t miss a beat in his first outdoor meet. He won the triple jump with a leap of 48’ 4 ¾”, a new meet record and an NCAA qualifying mark.

Juniors Billy TenBusch (Prairie Ridge HS, Cary, Ill.) and Greg Davis (Carlinville HS, Carlinville, Ill.) were both double winners. TenBusch won the 1500 with a time of 4:08.95 and the 3000 in 8:58.74 while Davis took the 110 high hurdles in :15.01 and 400 hurdles in :56.29.

Sophomore Tommie Harris (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) ran 10:20.10 to win the 3000 meter steeplechase. Freshman Chris Madison (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) won the 400 in :50.41 and sophomore Justin Smith (Fenton HS, Bensenville, Ill.) took the 800 in 2:01.01.

The Vikings won all three relays. The 400 relay won in :43.80 while the 3200 relay (8:34.98) and the 1600 relay (3:24.66) teams were also victorious.

Senior Alex Mikos (Fenton HS, Wood Dale, Ill.) won the javelin with a toss of 161’ 1” and freshman Nick Sinon (Kaneland HS, Elburn, Ill.) cleared 6’ 4” to win the high jump.

Augustana had three events that resulted in one-two-three-four sweeps. In the 3000 steeplechase freshman Isaac Trostle (Willowbrook HS, Lombard, Ill.) (10:25.60), freshman Tyler Busch (Winnebago HS, Winnebago, Ill.) (10:35.20) and freshman Alex Stockwell (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) (10:48.30) took the next three places behind Harris. In the 200 it was sophomore Greg Patton (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) (:22.26), senior James Wood (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) (:22.86) and sophomore Ryan Brummet (Riverdale HS, Port Byron, Ill.) (:23.08) who claimed the next three spots behind Rindone. The 1500 saw sophomore Brian Pollastrini (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) (4:10.94), senior Matt Bowman (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) (4:12.87) and junior Mike Tisza (Hersey HS, Prospect Heights, Ill.) (4:13.08) finish second through fourth behind TenBusch.

Pollastrini followed up his second place finish in the 1500 with a second place in the 3000 as well as he ran 9:03.41. Sophomore Dennis O’Flaherty (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) took second in the 800 in 2:01.64.

Junior Brian Benning (Winnebago HS, Winnebago, Ill.) was second in the shot with a toss of 45’ 7” and was third in the hammer with a heave of 145’ 0”. Junior Adam Myers (Dixon HS, Dixon, Ill.) took second in the hammer throw with a mark of 157’ 9”. Freshman Matt Dickey (Benet Academy, Downers Grove, Ill.) was second in the long jump with a leap of 20’ 1 ½”. Sophomore Colton VanKirk (Rochelle HS, Rochelle, Ill.) cleared 14’ 4” to grab second in the pole vault and freshman Justin Davidson (Galesburg HS, Galesburg, Ill.) went over 6’ 2” to take second in the high jump. Freshman Scott Pospisil (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) was second in the triple jump with a leap of 42’ 0 ½”.

Senior Brendan Bradley (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) took third in both the 110 high hurdles (:15.97) and the 400 intermediate hurdles (:58.81). Sophomore Jacob O’Rourke (Davenport Assumption HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) was third in the 100 in :11.45 and was fourth in the long jump (19’ 8”). Senior Jason Langslet (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) ran :51.23 to finish third in the 400. Sophomore Jonathan Smith (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) took third in the 300 with a time of 9:03.63.

Sophomore Luke Anderson (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) was third in the javelin with a toss of 147’ 4”. Sophomore Kevin Macek (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) finished third in the shot at 43’ 7 ¼”. In the long jump freshman Trevor Raupp (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) placed third with a mark of 19’ 9” and Mikos cleared 13’ 4” in the pole vault to finish third.

Senior Don Anciaux (Iowa City HS, Iowa City, Iowa) was fourth in the 100 high hurdles in :16.56. Freshman Jay Graffanga (Geneva HS, LaFox, Ill.) ran :11.55 to place fourth in the 100. Freshman Luke Chvatal (Glenbard East HS, Lombard, Ill.) was fourth in the 400 in :53.52. Senior Tim Faith-Rosley (Glenbrook South HS, Glenview, Ill.) was fourth in the 800 in 2:07.08. Junior Brett Bernatowicz (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) cleared 12’ 4” to take fourth in the pole vault and sophomore Chad Collins (Thornridge HS, Dolton, Ill.) was fourth in the high jump at 5’ 8”.
