2005 Men's Tennis Review

Vikings place third in CCIW and post 11-8 overall record; John Feehan and Dan Rooney move into fourth place on all-time doubles victory list.

Seniors John Feehan (Illinois Math & Science Academy, East Moline, IL) and Dan Rooney (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, IL) put the finishing touches on tremendous careers to highlight the 2005 men’s tennis season at Augustana. The Vikings of first year head coach Pat Marsh went 11-8 overall and placed third in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin tournament.

Feehan and Rooney played together at number one doubles during the 2005 season and went 14-4 with several significant wins. They finished their careers with a fine record of 35-18 as a doubles team, which places them fourth on Augustana’s all-time list for victories. Their winning percentage of .660 is the fifth best in school history.

Feehan, who played number one singles for the past two seasons, was 10-8 in 2005 and he was a first team all-conference selection in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for the second year in a row. He ended his career with a 41-32 record in singles. He placed fourth in the conference at number four singles as a freshman and as a sophomore he was fourth at number two singles. Rooney wrapped up his career with a record of 49-27 and moved into seventh place on Augustana’s all-time victory list in singles. His winning percentage of .644 is 10th best in school history. He was a second team all-conference pick as a senior.

The Vikings took third in the CCIW tournament, beating Illinois Wesleyan 7-0 in the first round before losing to Carthage 7-0 in the semi-finals. In the third place match Augustana won a 4-3 decision over Elmhurst to give the Vikings their best conference finish since the 2002 team also placed third.
