Honors project: clogging, kids and poetry
January 21, 2011
Senior English majors Chris and Kim Hedlin wanted their Honors Capstone project to be something outside of the box.
They combined three of their passions—clogging, poetry, and working with kids— to create “Kinetic Poetics,” a research-based curriculum that uses clogging to capture the rhythms and excitement of poetry.
With the help of the third- and fourth-graders at nearby Longfellow Elementary School, they have spent the last two weeks putting their lessons into action. After teaching four lessons in the students’ classrooms, Chris and Kim led an assembly that allowed the students to show off what they learned.
