Sophomore Chris Greaves took second in the 200 backstroke and third in the 200 butterfly and swam on four relay teams that finished second to help lead Augustana to a second place team finish at the IWU Halloween Classic on Saturday, October 23.

A pair of freshmen paved the way for the Augustana men’s swimming team in the Halloween Classic on Saturday, October 23 at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. Justin Reppy (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) and Daniel Hinck (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) won the 500 freestyle and 100 freestyle respectively and helped pave the way for a second place team finish.

Host Illinois Wesleyan won the four team event with 89 points while Augustana scored 60 in the runner-up slot. North Central (40) was third and Millikin (25) took fourth. The meet featured some different event configurations with four of the relays consisting of three-person teams instead of the usual four-person units.

Hinck won the 100 freestyle in :50.94 and took second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:54.99. He also anchored the 200 medley relay that placed second with a time of 1:47.45. He was joined on that squad by sophomore Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.), sophomore Marcus Julian (Lake Park HS, Itasca, Ill.) and Reppy. Hinck handled the third leg on the 500 freestyle relay that placed second with a time of 4:29.26. The other members of that team were junior Charles Vogt (Oak Park-River Forest, HS, Oak Park, Ill.), Greaves and Reppy in the anchor slot. He combined with Greaves and Reppy to finish second in the 3x100 backstroke relay with a time of 3:08.07. In the final event of the meet Hinck swam the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay and helped that team take second in 1:33.38. Greaves, Reppy and Vogt handled the other three legs.

Reppy won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:10.44 to go along with his second place finishes in the 500, 3x100, 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. He was also third in the 200 freestyle in 1:55.50.

Greaves picked up where he left off last year and was second in the 200 backstroke  (2:16.84) and third in the 200 butterfly (2:14.66).

The 3x100 breaststroke relay team of Julian, freshman Ryan Chaney (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) and Jasen Hengst (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) was second in 3:27.13. That same trio also took second in the 3x100 medley relay with a time of 3:11.61 but switched the order so that Julian swam first, Hengst second and Chaney anchored.

Charles Vogt placed third in the 100 freestyle in :52.55 and his sophomore brother Harrison Vogt (Oak Park-River Forest HS, Oak Park, Ill.) finished fifth in :54.09. Charles Vogt, Chaney and Hengst were third in the 3x100 butterfly relay with a time of 3:19.70.
