Shannen McNamara and Kim Sawyer were both named to the CCIW All-Conference squad as first team selections after leading Augustana to its highest league finish since 1997. McNamara and Sawyer held down the No. 1 and No. 2 singles slots and also paired together to play No. 1 doubles for the Blue & Gold.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Freshmen Shannen McNamara (Battle Mountain HS, Avon, Colo.) and Kim Sawyer (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) were named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women’s tennis all-conference team, it was announced today.  McNamara and Sawyer were selected by the CCIW coaches for the first team.  They are the first women’s tennis players from Augustana to earn first team honors since Kristen Pence in 2004.

The freshmen tandem also combined forces to play No. 1 doubles for the Vikings.  They took fourth in the No. 1 doubles flight at the CCIW Tournament after finishing 3-3 against league opponents during the regular season.  The duo sported a 9-6 record overall, going 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and 1-1 at the ITA Tournament.  McNamara has one more victory at No. 1 doubles, giving her an overall record of 22-12 for the fall.  Sawyer notched another win at No. 1 doubles and one at No. 2 doubles as well, making her final mark for the fall a terrific 26-11.

The Vikings finished the fall portion of the season at 9-3 overall with a 4-2 mark in the CCIW.  Augustana compiled 37 points at the CCIW Championships, tying for second as a team and earning the No. 2 seed for the CCIW Automatic Qualifier next spring.
