2010 Season - Jungnickel breaks school record for career aces

Courtney Jungnickel broke the Augustana school record for career service aces over the past weekend. Jungnickel, who was named to the all-tournament team at the UW-Platteville Tournament, now has 188 and broke the old mark of 184 previously held by Mandy Murray from 1999-02.

Senior outside hitter Courtney Jungnickel (Naperville Central HS, Naperville, Ill.) broke the Augustana school record for career service aces at the Wisconsin-Platteville Tournament, which was held at Williams Arena on the UW-Platteville campus on September 24-25. Jungnickel went into the weekend’s action with 177 service aces, needing seven to tie and eight to break the existing record of 184 set by Mandy Murray from 1999-02.

Jungnickel had two aces in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-16) loss to Edgewood in the first match on Friday, September 24. She then came back and fired six aces in a 3-1 (19-25; 25-17, 25-19, 25-12) win over Wisconsin-Stout in the second match on Friday. That gave her eight on the day and pushed her career number to 185, erasing Murray’s name from the record books. Jungnickel would add three more the next day and she now has 188 for her career.

Augustana ended up going 1-3 in the tournament, dropping a 3-0 (25-15; 25-14, 25-18) decision to Dominican on Saturday, September 25 and a 3-1 (25-17; 25-22; 23-25; 25-19) match to Wisconsin-Platteville in the final competition.

Jungnickel would end the tournament with 50 kills in 14 games with 11 service aces, 34 digs, three solo blocks, one assisted block and one setting assist. She is now fifth on the school’s all-time list in digs with 1,386 and sixth in kills with 1,251. Callyn Dittmar (2000-03) holds the school record in both of those categories with 1,650 digs and 1,486 kills.
For her efforts, Jungnickel was named to the all-tournament team.
