2010 Season - Augustana CCIW favorite in women's soccer

First team All-CCIW and all-region performer Caitlin Winkelman is one of eight returning starters for Augustana in 2010.

NAPERVILLE, Ill.—After winning the school’s first-ever College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship a year ago, coach Scott Mejia’s women’s soccer team has been tabbed by the league’s coaches as the favorite in the 2010 conference race. Mejia’s Vikings, who went 7-0 in the league and also won the conference tournament in 2009, received five first-place votes and 47 total points in the pre-season poll.

Augustana, which finished 20-2-1 overall last year and reached the “Sweet 16” of the NCAA Division III tournament, returns eight starters and 24 letter winners in 2010. Included in that number are first team All-CCIW selections Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.), Megan Mummert (Crawfordsville HS, Crawfordsville, Ill.) and Caitlin Winkelman (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) as well as second team pick Erin Coulson (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.). Radloff and Winkelman were first team NSCAA all-region selections, and Radloff, a junior goalkeeper, earned third team All-America recognition.

Wheaton, which won or shared the first 13 conference titles from 1995-2007, was tabbed for second in the poll, garnering the remaining three first-place votes and 44 total points. 2008 conference champion Illinois Wesleyan was picked third with 38 points.
