Plans after graduation

I plan to take off a year, get a job, and save up money so that I can attend graduate school for art history in fall 2011. At graduate school, I will pursue a doctorate and hopefully become a professor in art history.

How did Augustana prepare you for life after college?

The liberal arts education I have received at Augustana has made me a well-rounded person. I think that both graduate schools and employers value people who have knowledge in many areas.

What are you looking forward to about life after graduation?

Since I will be working at a job, and not a career until after graduate school, I look forward to having some spare time to do what I please. Next year I plan on doing a lot of art history reading, and teaching myself French, in preparation for graduate school. I also look forward to attending graduate school, and furthering my research and knowledge in my area of interest.

What will you miss about Augustana?

I will miss the people- my friends, professors and bosses-the most.

What was your favorite memory from Augie?

My favorite memory is meeting my boyfriend on move-in day; we have been dating since our first year at Augie. (We were in the same advising group and in the same fall LS course.) In relation to courses, I have enjoyed many field trips, such as those to the Art Institute of Chicago for my art history classes, as well as getting to ride in a boat on the Mississippi River for my Landforms/Landscapes course, which I took for a general education requirement.

What advice would you give to current students?

Work hard, but take time to enjoy college life before you have to go out into the real world. Make good use of your time, and don't take for granted the opportunity to learn.
