2009-2010 Season - Vikings finish fourth at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill.—Competing in her hometown, Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) broke her own school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase Saturday to help Augustana to a fourth-place at the Fighting Scot Invitational. Hottle ran a third-place 11:30.95, eclipsing her previous record of 11:36.80 set last year. The Vikings compiled 78.5 points, while host Monmouth won the meet with 132.

Augustana had four place winners in the 10,000 meters, taking spots two thru five. Senior Sarah Blythe (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) took second with a 48:22.35 while freshmen Lauren Banda (Downers Grove North HS, Woodridge, Ill.), Nicole Babbini (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) and Allie Bierhaus (Bloomington South HS, Bloomington, Ind.) followed with times of 49:54.87, 53:00.30 and 53:55.96, respectively.

The Vikings had three athletes earn points in the pole vault, led by Caitlin Quinn’s (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) third-place 10’ 2” leap. Libby Geison (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) cleared 9’ 2¼” for seventh place and Morgan Gale (Oregon HS, Oregon, Ill.) finished eighth with a mark of 8’ 8¼”.

Ainsley Fedler (Burlington HS, Burlington, Iowa) and Sarah Johnson (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) also brought home third place finishes. Fedler ran a :12.90 in the 100 meters and Johnson finished the 5000 in 19:54.80. Fedler also teamed with Katie Bedene (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.), Valerie Bach (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) and Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.) to take fourth in the 4x100 relay with a time of :50.91.

Amy Walsh (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) garnered a pair of fourth-place finishes with a :16.25 in the 100 meter hurdles and a 1:05.82 in the 400 hurdles. Megan Timmerman (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) was fourth in the high jump, clearing 4’ 11”, and Ella Mathieson also captured fourth place with a leap of 34’ 5” in the triple jump.

Bennett finished sixth at 400 meters in a time of 1:00.61 and Annie Heifner (Oregon HS, Oregon, Wis.) ran a 5:00.73 in the 1500 to take eighth palace.

Next weekend the Vikings travel to Wheaton, Illinois for the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships. The meet gets underway at noon on Friday, May 7 and continues at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8.
