2009-2010 Season - Women swimmers in hunt for fourth in CCIW

The Augustana Vikings remain locked in a fight for fourth place in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Swimming & Diving Championships as the meet ended its second day. Second year head coach Scott Johannsen’s team has compiled 189 points through 24 events in the three day meet. Wheaton is leading with 561 points while Carthage is second with 537 and Illinois Wesleyan is third with 418. Augustana is just 15 points in front of fifth place Rose Hulman (174) while North Central (161) and Millikin (146) are not out of the race for fourth.

Senior Sara Hlavin (St. Viator HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.), senior Ramsey Vens (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) and freshman Molly Clennon (Benet Academy HS, Naperville, Ill.) all swam in finals on Friday, February 19 at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Hlavin placed sixth in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:55.14 after recording a 4:55.69 in the preliminary heat. Vens took seventh in the 100 backstroke with a clocking of 1:02.46, which was a bit slower than her preliminary time of 1:02.09. Clennon grabbed eighth in the 100 breaststroke as she stopped the watches at 1:11.69. She swam 1:11.75 in the preliminaries.

The 200 medley relay team of Vens, Hlavin, freshman Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) and freshman Mary Naughton (Fremont HS, Fremont, Nebraska) finished fifth in 1:56.47. The 800 freestyle relay of junior Emily Cox (Pioneer HS, Ann Arbor, Mich.), Hlavin, Clennon and Vens placed fourth in 8:18.68.

Regnier finished 10th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.77. Cox took 13th in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.11. In the 100 breaststroke freshman Emily Timmons (West Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.) was 14th in 1:15.90 and freshman Alex Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) was right behind her in 15th in 1:17.97.
