2009-2010 Season - Augustana women swimmers defeat Monmouth

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women’s swim team swept the top three spots in the 100 and 200 freestyle races on its way to a 141-78 victory over Monmouth on Friday, November 20.  Senior Ramsey Vens (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.72.  She was followed closely by freshman Molly Clennon (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.) and junior Emily Cox (Pioneer HS, Ann Arbor, Mich.), who finished in 2:08.21 and 2:08.84 respectively.  Clennon came back later in the dual with a win in the 100 freestyle (:58.94).  Freshman Mary Naughton (Freemont HS, Freemont, Nebraska) was second (:59.74) and freshmen Alexandra Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) took third (1:00.31).

Augustana compiled six more individual first place performances and also claimed the top spot in the 200 freestyle relay to finish out the night.  Sophomore Tonya Walter (Mt. Prospect HS, Prospect, Ill.) earned first place finishes in the one meter diving event (133.15) and the three meter diving event (147.70).  Piper took first in the 50 freestyle (:27.24) and freshman Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) won the 100 butterfly (1:04.33).  Vens notched her second title of the night with a victory in the 100 backstroke (1:03.98) and senior Sara Hlavin (St. Viator HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) finished first in the 500 freestyle (5:44.02).  Hlavin, Clennon, Cox, and sophomore Alissa Giedd (Freeport HS, Cedarville, Ill.) won the last event, hitting the finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a clocking of 1:48.04.

Sophomore Colleen Mans (Robbinsdale Cooper HS, New Hope, Minn.) scored a couple runner-up finishes for the Vikings.  She placed second in the 1000 freestyle (12:38.57) and the 100 backstroke (1:12.61).  Naughton took second in the 50 freestyle (:27.60) and Hlavin was second in the 200 individual medley (2:24.60).  Vens, freshman Emily Timmons (West Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.), Regnier, and Piper were second in the 200 medley relay (1:58.66).

Timmons finished third in the 200 individual medley (2:26.16) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.52).  Cox grabbed a third place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:47.21.
