2009 Season - David Lee wins CCIW honor
Augustana sophomore quarterback David Lee (Springfield HS, Springfield, Ill.) made the most of his first career start during the Vikings 42-20 non-conference victory against Greenville on Saturday, September 12. Lee was named the “Offensive Player of the Week” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for his role in Augustana’s first victory of the 2009 season.
He compiled 244 yards of total offense and was responsible for three touchdowns. He rushed for 83 yards on 12 attempts and scored a touchdown on a 73 yard run in the third quarter. In the passing department he completed 16 of 25 for 161 yards with two scores. His first touchdown pass came with 4:55 left in the first half when he connected with Corbett Ball from 35 yards out. In the third quarter he hooked up with Matt Downing for a 32 yard scoring toss.
In all, Lee helped lead the Augustana offense to 449 yards in total offense with 288 of that coming on the ground and 161 through the air. For good measure he also punted three times for a total of 108 yards, an average of 36.0 yards per kick. He had a long punt of 45 yards and he had one downed inside the 20 yard line.
Lee did not start the first game of the year for the Vikings, coming off the bench in the team’s 9-7 loss at Coe on Saturday, September 5. So far this season he has thrown for 252 yards on 24 of 41 with two touchdowns and one interception. He has a quarterback efficiency rating of 121.39 and he has completed .585 percent of his passes. He has compiled 120 yards rushing on 22 carries with one touchdown. He is averaging 186.0 yards of total offense.
The son of Stephen Lee of Springfield, David is a business management major at Augustana.
