2008-2009 Season - Gahn named to academic all-district team

Senior golf standout Rachel Gahn (Edina HS, Edina, Minn.) has been selected to the academic all-district team by ESPN – The Magazine in the at-large division, it was announced today. Gahn was a second team honoree in district five, which includes the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Indiana.

Gahn had a tremendous career for the Vikings, winning Most Valuable Player honors from her teammates all four years. She averaged 83.1 strokes per round to lead the team during the 2008-09 season. She also had the best low round on the squad, firing a 74 on the second day of the St. Ambrose Classic this past fall. Gahn competed in 14 events and was a top-five finisher on six occasions. She finished in the top 20 in all but one event.

She was the runner-up at the Augustana Triangular (25 golfers), Augustana Invitational (38 golfers), and St. Ambrose Spring Invitational (51 golfers). She placed third at the Mount Mercy Invitational (68 golfers), North Central Invitational (73 golfers), and St. Ambrose Classic (72 golfers). Gahn also finished seventh at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship.

During the fall she was named the winner of the Jack Swartz Award in the CCIW for her combination of athletic excellence and academic prowess.

As a junior she earned second team academic all-district honors as well. She won the Wyndike Invitational in the spring of 2006 as a freshman and the Monmouth Invitational in the fall of 2006 as a sophomore. During her junior season of 2007-08 she won the Augustana Fall Classic and the Hickory Point Open. Throughout her brilliant career she recorded a total of 31 top-10 invitational finishes. She twice served as team captain.

Gahn was named the winner of the Knut Erickson Award at Augustana’s annual “Senior Blanket Awards Dinner” on May 10. The Knut Erickson Award goes to the senior blanket award winner with the highest cumulative grade point average.

Rachel, the daughter of David and Susan Gahn of Edina, Minnesota, will graduate with a 3.85 grade point average and a major in chemistry. She is a four time academic honoree by the National Golf Coaches Association of America and she has also been nominated for an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
