2009 Season - Christensen nearly gets school record in discus
NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Freshman Phil Christensen (Kaneland HS, Maple Park, Ill.) has moved into second place on the all-time Augustana list in the discus throw. Christensen placed second in the discus on Thursday, May 14 at the Gregory Invitational in Naperville, Illinois with a toss of 168’ 11”. He placed second in the meet, trailing just the 173’ 3” throw of winner Tyler Arnholt of Eastern Illinois.
Christensen, who came into the meet with a best mark of 155’ 0” recorded at the Chicago Invitational on May 9, nearly took down the Augustana school record. The record is 170’ 4” from Dave Lingner in 1981. Lingner was a three time College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin champion in the disc and finished second in the nation at the NCAA Division III national meet in 1981.
Christensen’s throw on Thursday is the third best performance in the nation this year at the NCAA Division III level. He will be competing at the NCAA Division III national meet in Marietta, Ohio on May 20-23.
