2009 Season - Softball team raises $2K for cancer
The Augustana softball team held a "Strike Out Breast Cancer" event on April 24 when the Vikings hosted North Park. The Blue & Gold raised $2,000 through donations towards the cause. The team sold pink t-shirts and also found sponsors who made pledges for each strikeout.
Augustana wore pink jerseys, pink arm bands, and pink head bands during the double header. North Park also participated by wearing pink visors and pink arm bands. Two mothers and a grandmother of Augustana players who have all survived breast cancer were also honored and received roses from the players.
"It was great to play the game we love while raising money for a terrific cause," said head coach Kristina Kistler.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) helped fundraise and put up signs to promote the cause. SAAC also held a home run derby contest at the event. Augustana won 3-2 and 7-4 to sweep the doubleheader.
