2008-2009 Season - Rachel Gahn finishes tied for third as Viking golfers place sixth at North Central Invitational
Naperville, Ill. – Senior Rachel Gahn (Edina HS, Edina, Minn.) continued her early season hot streak, firing a round of 84 and finishing tied for third out of 73 golfers at the North Central Invitational on Tuesday, September 9 at the Cross Creek Country Club in Naperville, Illinois.
The Vikings finished with a team score of 377 to place sixth in the 10 team field. Freshman Brittany Carr (Lincoln Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) and junior Katherine Mascheri (Hersey HS, Mount Prospect, Ill.) each shot a 97 and finished tied for 36th place, each scoring for Augustana. Freshman Alexa Fontana (Freeport Aquin HS, Freeport, Ill.) rounded out the Viking total with a score of 99, tying for 40th place.
Other competitors for the Vikings were sophomore Courtney VandeWiele (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.), sophomore Jessica Berens (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.), junior Elizabeth Scarlata (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.), and senior Heather Arizpe (Conant HS, Schaumburg, Ill.). VandeWiele shot a 96 and placed in a tie for 34th place, Berens scored a 102 and finished in a tie for 48th place, Scarlata shot a 104 and earned 53rd place, and Arizpe took 63rd place with a round of 114.
Lewis University won the team title with a team score of 335, outdistancing Wheaton, who was second with a total of 349. Carthage was third at 360 with North Central fourth at 363 and St. Francis fifth with a total of 370. Augustana finished ahead of Elmhurst (381), Clarke (404), Carthage B (426), and North Central B (441).
Lewis’ Amy Sachs won the individual title with a round of 79 and was followed by her teammate Jamie Siedlaczek, who was second with a score of 83. Gahn tied Sarah Joers of Carthage for third place, each shooting a round of 84.
Augustana’s next outing will be at the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14. The event will be held at the Meadows Spring Golf Course in Jefferson County, Wisconsin.
