(ιδ/ε) Apollinaris: He prophesied the things about those who were left behind in the ruins of Jerusalem opportunely, when the city was desolated; and indeed the things about the captives in Babylon, since they were not worthy of return on account of their disobedience (continuing until now)—such that neither group was worthy of the land. And [he prophesied] opportunely also concerning the shepherds, on account of whose faulty shepherding the sack [of the city] occurred. He accuses them of not being concerned about the sheep, for their good, but rather about themselves, for their luxury.

(ιζ) Cyril: For while they demanded tithes, firstfruits, and thanksgiving offerings in accordance with the law, and luxuriated profligately in the the gifts given by the people, they made no account of their salvation.

(λς) Cyril: For although those of Levi's blood were learned in the law and possessed, as a most beautiful pasturage and light and clear water, the instruction of Moses that was quite sufficient to lead them to the truth, they trampled the pasture in a certain way; and they also stirred the water into confusion, presenting a kind of thick and muddy teaching, full of earthy impurity, before those who—being in the position of sheep—followed them as rams.

(μ) Cyril: It is no trouble to see that it is about Christ he is saying such things; for Ezekiel prophesied after David had already died and was already lying in a tomb. And God the Father was making the promise as something that was going to happen at the proper time, not as something already completed. Promises are for things yet to come, not for things already accomplished.
