CATENA ON EZEKIEL
{192r} (1) αAnd it happened in the 30th year, in the fourth month, on the fifth of the month, βand I was in the midst of the exile, γby the river %Chebar, δand the heavens were opened, εand I saw a vision [visions Z] of God. (2) On the fifth of the month, this (was) the fifth year of the exile of king Ioakim (Jehoiachim), [3] ςand the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel ζson of Buzi, the priest, ηin the land of the Chaldaeans θby the river Chebar (3) ιand the hand of the Lord came upon me. (4) And I saw, ιαand behold! a spirit that takes away / a rising wind was coming out ιβfrom the north, ιγand a great cloud [was] in it, ιδand a brightness [was] around it, ιε ις ιζ ιηand fire flashing like lightning, and in the midst of it, as it were an appearance, of electrum, in the midst of the fire, and a brightness [was] in it. (5) And in the midst, ιθas a likeness of four living creatures; κand this is their appearance: a likeness of a man [was] upon them, (6) and four faces to the one; and four wiκαngs to the one. (7) And their legs were straight, {192v} κβand their feet winged. And [there were] sparks, like κγlightning-flashing bronze; and their wings were light. (8) κδAnd a human hand [was] underneath their wings, to ÷their four parts / directions; κεand their faces and their wings, those of the four, clinging / holding the one to the other, and the faces of them, of the four, (9) κςdid not turn in their going -- κζthey were travelling each one in the direction of their face. (10) And κηthe likeness of their faces: a human face; and a lion's face -- on the right, for the four; and a calf's face -- on the left, for the four; and an eagle's face, for the four. (11) κθAnd their wings [were] stretched out above, for the four; for each, two [wings] yoked together with each other, and λtwo were covering them, overtop of their bodies. (12) λαAnd each one was travelling in the direction of its face -- wherever the spirit was travelling, they were travelling, and they did not turn. (13) λβAnd in the midst of the living creatures, the likeness of burning coals of fire, like the sight of torches gathered together, all through the midst of the living creatures; and [there was] a brightness of the fire, and from the fire was coming forth lightning. (14) λγAnd the living creatures were running, and they were returning, like the form of the bezek%. (15) And I saw, and behold! λδone wheel upon the earth λεclinging to the living creatures, with the four. (16) And the form of the wheels was as the form λς(of) tharsis ÷; and [there was] one likeness for the four; and their work was just as if it were λζ λη λθa wheel in a wheel. (17) μTo their four parts / directions they were travelling; μαthey did not μβturn in their travelling, (18) μγnor did their backs; and it was into a height for them. And I saw them, and μδtheir backs [were] μεfull of eyes all around, for the four. (19) μςAnd as they travelled {193r} -- the μζliving creatures -- the wheels clinging / holding to them were travelling; μηand as they rose up -- the living creatures -- from the earth, the wheels were lifted up. (20) μθWherever the cloud was, there was the spirit to travelν; the living creatures were travelling, as well as the wheels, and they were lifted up along with them, ναbecause there was a spirit of life in the wheels. (21) As they travelled, they were travelling; and as they stood still, they stood still; and as they rose up from the earth, they were lifted up along with them, because there was a spirit of life in the wheels. (22) νβAnd [there was] a likeness above the head for them, of the living creatures, as it were a firmament, as a vision of crystal, stretched out over their wings, above them. (23) And underneath the firmament, their wings, stretched out, νγfluttering one to the other. νδFor each, [there were] two [wings] yoked together, νεcovering their bodies. (24) νςAnd I was hearing the voice / sound of their wings as they fluttered them, νζlike the voice / sound of much water, like the voice of one quite sufficient, as νηthey travelled, the voice / sound of the word, as the voice / sound of an encampment. νθAnd as they stood still, their wings would stop. (25) ξAnd behold! a voice / sound overtop of the firmament that was above their head. And as they stood still, their wings would be relaxed. (26) And ξαover the firmament that was above their head, like a vision of a ξβsapphire stone, the appearance of a throne upon it; and upon the appearξδance ξγof the throne, an appearance like a human form above. (27) ξεAnd I saw as it were a vision of electrum, ξςas it were a vision of a fire inside of it in a circle: from the vision of the loins and upwards; ξζand from the vision of the loins and downwards, I saw as it were a vision of fire, ξηand the brightness of it in a circle, (28) ξθ as a vision of a bow -- whenever it is in the cloud in a day of rain -- so [was] the vision of the brightness round about.
