National Public Radio programs, Morning Edition and All Things Considered frequently feature reports on economic, political and social conditions around the world, including developing countries. You can hear these broadcasts live on Augustana's own WVIK FM 90.3. You can also listen to archived reports by going to NPR's website.

(Another excellent source of news online is the BBC.)

For an interesting historical perspective on economic development in the now industrialized world, I highly recommend Brad DeLong's Slouching Toward Utopia.
