The
Preamble: The Deutsch Klub
seeks to introduce and promote German culture and language within the Augustana
community by means of films, lectures, social activities, and other events
associated with the German culture.
Section 1: The name of this organization is
Deutsch Klub.
Article II. Purpose

understands and accepts all
Article III: Membership
Section 1: Eligibility
Any Augustana student in good
standing, alumnus, or faculty member shall be eligible for full membership.
§ It should be noted that Deutsch Klub encourages both German culture and language and,
therefore, some knowledge of or enthusiasm for the German language would make
membership more rewarding, though it is not required.
§ Those outside of
Section 2: Limitations
The membership shall be limited only
by the enthusiasm of the Augustana community for the language and culture of German
speaking countries.
Section 3: Representation
All members in good standing with
the club and present shall elect officers and vote on issues relevant to the
club.
Section 4: Holding
Office
Members in good standing who have
completed at least one quarter of active membership shall be able to hold
office.
§ This does not apply to the
founding officers, who shall be elected at the first official meeting.
Section 5: Equal Opportunity
Deutsch Klub
openly admits undergraduate students to its membership and does not
discriminate on the basis of race, color,
disability, gender, ethnicity, national origin, religion or sexual orientation.
Article IV. Officers
Section 1: There will be four elected officers
based on majority vote of all club members. They will consist of the following
positions and duties:
a. President
§ Chief spokesman for the Club
§ Calls for all meetings
§ Chairman of the assembly and of
the Executive Committee
§ Along with the Vice President,
coordinates club activities.
b. Vice President
§ Has and exercises all the powers
of the President during the absence of the latter
§ Handles communication within the Club and
with outside people and
organizations
§ Shall substitute for the President
when unable to perform the duties of the President due to absence for a period
of time not to exceed one term.
§ Shall succeed the President in the
case that the President is unable to perform the duties of the President for any
reason other than absence or for any period of time exceeding one term.
§ Along with the President,
coordinates activities for the members of the Club.
d. Secretary
§ Take minutes of the Club’s
meetings
§ Shall supervise the keeping of the
Club’s records
e. Treasurer
§ Shall collect dues when applicable
§ Shall maintain the Club’s
financial records
§ Shall supervise the handling and
distributions of Club funds in cooperation with the President
§ Shall prepare an annual report to
the general assembly as well as preparing an annual report to the Student
Government Association when requested.
Section 2: The Officers will constitute an
Executive Committee, which will make decisions for the club by majority vote within
the Committee.
Section 3: Officers must be full-time students in
good standing with
Article V: Operations
Section 1: Election of Officers
a. Elections shall be held at the
beginning of each year at a time designated by the Executive Committee.
b. All members are allowed to vote.
c. Those elected will assume office
at the beginning of the year following their election.
d. Officers will be elected for the
period of one year.
e. Any active club member who fills
the University requirements for holding office is eligible.
f. Voting
will be done by secret written ballot.
Section 2: Impeachment
a. Any officer of the Executive
Committee can be removed for gross neglect of duty by a two-thirds vote of the active
members at any duly held meeting.
Section 3: Mid-year Vacancies
a. In the event of a vacancy on the
Executive Committee during the semester, the President will appoint a
replacement until a special election can be held.
b. The same general election rules
apply to the special election.
Section 4: Faculty Advisor
a. The
Faculty Advisor will assist in communicating Club messages to the
University faculty.
Article VI. Finances
Section 1:
There may be annual membership dues
as needed. The amount will be decided at the first executive committee meeting
of each academic year, following elections.
Section 2:
The German Club will seek funding by
application to the Student Government Association (SGA).
Section 3:
The German Club will comply with all
financial policies of
Article VII. Amendments
Section 1:
Amendments can be proposed by any
member of the German club at any meeting. Amendments to the Constitution shall
be approved by the affirmative vote of two-thirds (2/3) of all club members,
including 2/3 of the executive committee.
