2003 - Luau
The third year for Dance Marathon marked some changes for the service organization. Director Laura Ferdinandt coordinated activities with the Children's Miracle Network and created a tropical environment with the Luau theme. This year the dance raised over $18,000 sponsored through over 300 dancers.
2002 - Got beads!
In the second year of the Dance Marathon, the goal was raised to $25,000. That goal was met with 405 dancers participating! All proceeds of the first two events went to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of the Quad Cities.
2001
In 2001, a small group of students at Augustana College had a vision of creating a Dance Marathon to serve a philanthropic cause. Students Amy VanCauwenberge and Katie Sander volunteered to create an event that would incorporate the Augustana community and serve the Quad Cities community. Teaming up with Alpha Phi Omega, the national service fraternity, and backed by the Office of Student Activities, these students worked diligently for many months to create an outstanding event. In the first year, Dance Marathon surpassed its initial goal of $10,000 by raising over $21,000 with 379 dancers! |
