Information for International Students

All international students will register for fall term classes during International Student Orientation, which runs from Friday, August 14 through Thursday, August 20.

This information applies to you if you are:

  • An international student who lives in the United States
  • A person who does not have a U.S. passport and does not live in the United States
  • A U.S. citizen living abroad

(General student Orientation & Registration will take place on several dates in June and July. International students who will be in the U.S. and who would like to attend a June or July event should contact Jane Tiedge, coordinator for international students.)

International students should follow these steps to complete their preparations for arrival at Augustana:

STEP ONE: Take a language placement test, if appropriate

International students do not need to take a foreign language placement test unless they intend to continue study in Spanish, French, German or Latin. These test results do not appear on students' transcripts or permanent record. They are only used by academic advisors and the office of International Student Life.

STEP TWO: Send transcripts

Students should arrange to have their official transcripts from their final term/semester in high school and/or college sent directly to Augustana College, Office of the Registrar, as soon as possible. Be sure to request transcripts that include the spring term. The transcript must be in English.

STEP THREE: Fill out a housing preference form by June 1

STEP FOUR: Send a travel itinerary

Send a complete travel itinerary to Jane Tiedge, coordinator for international students. Include the airline carrier, flight numbers, date and times of arrival. Students traveling with a cell phone should include the phone number.

STEP FIVE: Register for classes

Students who are unable to attend an Orientation & Registration day in June or July will register for classes during International Student Orientation on August 14. Students who are able to attend an Orientation & Registration day in June or July should email to select a date. Bring a passport or government-issued ID to campus that day.

STEP SIX: International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation is mandatory for international students (even a U.S. citizen who lives overseas). It will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, August 14, and run through Thursday morning, August 20. Programming includes field trips to local sites, shopping, academic events (such as class registration and purchasing textbooks) and an introduction to the campus itself.

Classes begin on Monday, August 24.
