32 Augustana undergraduates enrolled in the course “Teaching Mathematics in the Elementary School” worked closely with Longfellow’s 48 kindergarteners as part of their course requirements in the fall of 2009.

Augustana/Longfellow Number Sense Project (NSP)

The 2010-2011 school year marked the 2nd year of infusing practical teaching experiences with kindergarteners into the math methods course.  This term there were less college students (28) and more kindergarteners (52) resulting in larger teaching groups.

Fall 2010: NSP Rolls On

In the fall of 2011, the NSP’s third year, all junior elementary education majors owned iPads.  Hence, this was the first year when the fall students were able to incorporate the Number Sense Software (iPad versions) extensively with the children.  Old- fashioned manipulatives proved to be helpful teaching tools as well.
