Biographical Note

Anders Jonas Lindstrom was born in 1843 in Möljeryd, Sweden. He emigrated from Sweden with his parents in 1854 and they settled in Illinois. He was the first person to be sent over to Sweden by the Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church to enter Uppsala University in November of 1863. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy in 1869 and continued his studies to qualify for ordination in 1870. He returned to America in 1870 to serve as Professor of Augustana College and Theological Seminary at Paxton. Within a few weeks of his return to Paxton he contracted tuberculosis from which he never recovered. He died on January 24, 1872.


The papers include family letters written by various family members, incl. sister Ingerd and brother James. There are also four letters written by Anders Jonas Lindström to family in the U.S. and Lars Paul Esbjörn. Included are also graduation certificates from Sweden for the period 1860-1873.
