Jeff Bell joined the Augustana family on Nov. 8, 2010, as a Public Safety Support Officer and is now a full time Public Safety Officer. Jeff attended Augustana sometime back in the Stone Age, is a veteran and is also a retired Teamster. In his spare time Jeff enjoys drawing, playing guitar and singing. He performs a couple of times a year at the Bucktown Revue in Davenport. Jeff is also a voracious reader particularly of history. Jeff is a very happily married father of five and lives in Moline with his lovely wife Suzy and their two Malamutes, Buster and Lena.
Kara Brant joined the Residential Life staff as the Area Coordinator for Westerlin and Transitional Living Areas West in August of 2011. Originally from Frankfort, Indiana, Kara attended Defiance College (OH) where she graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors degree in Arts and Humanities. She went on to attend Indiana State University where she completed her Masters of Science in Student Affairs and Higher Education in the spring of 2011.
Karen Eilers began at Augustana on Aug. 8. She serves as the director of Career Development within the Community Engagement Center in Sorensen Hall. Karen joins Augie after four years as Associate Director of the Career Center at Central College in Pella, Iowa. She holds an M.A. in Student Development from the University of Iowa and is originally from Cedar Rapids. Karen enjoys travel, reading, cooking, and photography. She is eager to explore all that the Quad Cities has to offer!
Kenya Johnson is a the new part-time secretary for the history, political science and philosophy departments. She can be found in Old Main in room 333. Kenya and her husband, Paul, are both former Augustana students and she is pleased to be back! Kenya and Paul live with their three children, Maureen(18), who is soon to be a freshman at Beloit College, Lauren (12), and Paul Jr. (8). Kenya spends her free time in rural America-Tampico, IL, crafting with the kids, running, gardening, entertaining three dogs, and enjoying quiet moments with her husband!
Dr. Pareena Lawrence joined Augustana College as the Dean of the College on July 1, 2011. Dr. Lawrence received her Ph.D. in Economics from Purdue University and her specialization is in the field of International economic development. She lives in Bettendorf, IA with her husband Todd and two sons Aaron (14) and Joshua (11). Prior to joining Augustana, Dr. Lawrence was at the University of Minnesota, Morris for 17 years and served the institution in many different capacities. Her office is located on the first floor of Founders (116). When not at work, Pareena spends her time cheering on her children's teams as they play football, basketball and baseball depending on the season and once in a while gets a few miles of running and biking in.
Coming from the University of Iowa, Joe began work as Facilities Director on June 30th. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and San Diego State University, he has held engineering, production and maintenance positions in the manufacturing and education sectors. His spare time is spent with his family, Barb and twin girls (Abigail and Allison), just enjoying life (and chauffeuring).
Megan MacCall recently moved to the Quad Cities to join the Augustana staff as the Director of Digital Archives and Visual Resources for the Department of Art History. While living in Chicago the past several years, she worked for a contemporary Chinese art gallery and volunteered as a collection manager for the Chicago History Museum and the Swedish American Museum. She has an M.A. in Art History and a Certificate in Museum Studies from Northern Illinois University. Away from work, Megan pursues other artistic interests such as sewing, photography and music.
Jon Miedema comes to us from the Grand Rapids Michigan area. Jon received his bachelors degree in business/communications from Calvin College. While at Calvin Jon played tennis all four years and served as captain and #1 singles and doubles player on a team that went 16-3. Following his Calvin career Jon worked in the mortgage industry and in insurance sales but after a few years he felt the desire to get back into tennis leading to a teaching position at the Michigan Athletic Club. In addition to his tennis teaching, Jon worked with the Calvin College Women's tennis team as an assistant and was head coach of the Men's program at Grace Bible College.
Ann Miller started her new job as the Tredway Library secretary on Aug. 8. Ann is a 1988 Graduate of Augustana and continues to live in Rock Island with her husband Tim (also an Augie Grad) and her daughter Ava (11). Ann comes from a library background, having just finished working at the St. Ambrose University Library as their Evening Circulation Supervisor and also having worked for Southeastern Library Services and the Bettendorf Public Library. Ann and her family enjoy reading and have all been involved in several local theater events.
Darwyn "Buzz" Robinson, came to Augustana as a Public Safety Officer, following a 40 year law enforcement career. Buzz spent 30 years with the Rock Island Police Department. He says he has come full circle, beginning his police career with the Northern Illinois University Police Department and now coming back to the academic arena. Buzz is the father of 5. His son Aaron Smith was a graduate of Augustana. He is an advocate of, and volunteer for Gilda's Club Quad Cities.
Dane Rowley joined Augustana on June 27 as Dean of Admissions. Dane's previous admissions work was for California Lutheran University where he supervised first year, international and transfer recruitment. Dane lives in Bettendorf with his wife Angela and son Parker (2). Outside of work Dane is involved in church and community organizations and spends a great deal of his time trying to keep pace with Parker and their dog Wookiee. Dane's office is located on the 1st floor of Seminary Hall. Please feel free to stop by and say hello if you are in the neighborhood.
Keri Rursch joined the Augustana staff on Aug. 15 as the new Director of Public Relations. Her office is located in Founders within the Communications and Marketing Office. Keri graduated from Illinois State University in 1994. She worked at Modern Woodmen of America for 16 years. A resident of rural Rock Island County, Keri and her husband Darrin live on a farm near Reynolds. She is an active volunteer in the Quad-City community; Keri especially loves to volunteer with her daughters --Ella (8) and Amelia (6).
