The worldwide Augustana College experience

Hallo alle, wie geht’s euch? My name is Robert Self, but everyone calls me R.T. I proudly hail from Galesburg, Illinois, where the corn grows high. I don’t know if I’ll ever grow up, but as an adult, I hope to make good use of my German major. I take deep interests in sign language, fencing, playing trombone in Symphonic Band, and my beloved corgi, Geffery. For me, life is one big adventure, and my trip to Wittenberg, Germany is an experience I cannot wait to capture. Read up for some interesting stories! Tschüss!

A Bit about German Culture

So here is an interesting tidbit: Germans are straight forward. This bit of information is something I’ve known for quite some time. I’ve studied it since high school. I’ve been here once before. I’ve experienced it. I feel as though I should be used to it. I’m not. In English, we fiddle around with words […]

A Weekend of Learning

So, after having been on numerous trips with our professor on various weekends, it was finally our turn as learning students to explore and travel on our own. This weekend, a group of six of us decided on Wednesday that we wanted to go to Berlin for the weekend, starting the very next day. Lesson […]

From Weimar to Wittenberg.

Hallo meine Damen und Herren! I have just spent the past weekend in Weimar – one of the top (in my opinion) culture cities of Europe. To begin, let me just pull out the mega ultra large German studies major geek of myself and tell y’all about the best part for me: Geothe. I got […]

Prague. Prag. Praha.

Let us see. Did I enjoy Prague this last weekend? Eh… I mean, it was kinda, sorta, absolutely-a… amazing! Here’s a preface: this is goin’ to be one long entry people, but it is worth it. The trip to Prague was taken by train and all 13 Wittenbergers went together. After a few layovers, we […]

Wittenberg: A Little Somethin’-Somethin’

Up ’til this point in time, life has been seeming a little strange. You see people – I just spent the past week of my life rushing to pack, rushing to the airport, flying overseas, and living in a foreign country… that’s not an average week for me. Also, time is messing with my mind. […]

What am I suppose to say?

So, to begin, this is my first day with internet since I have been living in Germany. Therefore, I have not had the opportunity to get on a blog for the past 4 days about how life has been here. I have so much to write already, and not enough time to do it in. […]

Anxiously Awaiting

I. Am. Anxious. Nervous. Excited. Scared. I can hardly fathom what is in store for me. Why, you ask? I am departing in less than two days to Wittenberg, Germany, to study abroad for just shy of three months, and I don’t know what to expect. For the past year or so, meetings have taken […]
