10) For as many times that I have been on campus, I have never noticed the engravings on top on the stone pillars above the entrance to the Fryxell Museum before. A closer look shows the names of Martin Luther (we all should recognize that name); Rev. Lars Paul Esbjorn, the first president of the college; Rev. Dr. Tuve Nils Hasselquist, the second president of the college; and then the fourth name…I had no clue. It turns out that Olavus Petrie was the man who took the reformation movement to Sweden. The names, still prominent in the oldest section of the campus reminds me that Augustana is, yes, college for today, but very much staid in the tradition and values of the past.
