Winter Term in Ghana (Winter 2012-2013)

Spend 5 weeks of winter in West Africa, learning, serving and interning.

This program ran in the Winter of 2012-2013.  It is not currently scheduled for a future cycle, however study abroad in Ghana and Tanzania is anticipated for Spring of 2015. 

The 2012 Winter Term in Ghana program is a full-immersion program featuring on-campus coursework in December, 2012, and a six-week immersion program in Accra, Ghana in January and February of 2013.  Students will take coursework in African Music and History before departing for Accra during Christmas Recess.  In Accra, coursework will continue, but students will also engage in ongoing service-learning internships throughout the city.  Students will live with Ghanaian families in Accra, will attend internships 3 days per week and will have class meetings and in-country excursions the remaining days.  This program offers PP, PH, G and LC credit towards Augustana's general education program.

Program Cost:  $13,000, Below the cost of Winter Term in Rock Island.

Includes: Tuition, Airfare, Ground Transport, Room & Board,  Excursions, Insurance

Does not include:  December Room & Board at Augustana (Approx. $1,450), Discretionary spending.

Courses Offered:  History 375: West Africa Past & Present (PP),  Music 342: Music & Culture of West Africa (PH, G), ISS Seminar (1 credit), HIST-INTR 2-credit Service Learning Internship.  A total program of 9 credits.

 This program is open only to full-time Augustana students.  Funds from Augie Choice are available for this program to any student with Junior status (60 credits or more) at the time of the program departure.
