Commencement Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many tickets do I get?

A: No tickets are required for commencement.

Q: Do I have to attend baccalaureate?

A: A majority of graduates choose to attend the baccalaureate service, which is an opportunity to give thanks to God for the friends and experiences the college has given you. Centennial Hall is packed for this very festive worship experience, and there is a sense of the entire campus community joining with graduates and their families in prayer and praise. So, while attendance is not required, baccalaureate offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the gift of your years at Augustana.

Q: How long will the baccalaureate service last?

A: Worship lasts about an hour, ending around 11 a.m., leaving graduates and their families ample time for a leisurely lunch before assembling for commencement at 2:15 p.m.

Q: Are tickets required for baccalaureate?

A: While no tickets are required and there is open seating in Centennial Hall, attendees should plan to arrive as close as possible to 9:30 a.m. 

Q: Am I expected to participate in commencement?

A: Commencement is the culminating event for you and your family, and it is expected that you will participate in the ceremony on May 21, 2017. If you need to be excused, please contact the Office of the Registrar at (309) 794-7277. 

Q: Will I receive a diploma when I graduate?

A: No, graduates are given a diploma cover at commencement. Graduates will have the option to pick-up their diploma or have the diploma mailed upon certification of completion of the degree requirements. Note: Diplomas will not be available for those with an outstanding balance in the business office.

Q: How long will the commencement ceremony last?

A: The ceremony usually lasts around two hours and will be over at approximately 5 p.m.

Q: Is there a rehearsal for the commencement ceremonies?

A: There is no rehearsal. Graduates should assemble at the iWireless Center at 2:15 p.m. in cap and gown. There will be no other rehearsal.
