This Week's Message

Happy sesquicentennial year, everyone.

Many of you may have already seen the sesquicentennial website (  The main story will change each week, so don't forget to check back and see new stories on a wide variety of topics such as Teapot Dome, The SS Augustana Victory, civil rights at Augustana, the Augustana Prohibition League, and the Denkmann serenade.  You may also want to take time to check out biographies of former Augustana faculty members, which you can find by clicking on the top rectangle link on the 150th page.  Content for the sesquicentennial website was generated mainly by Sarah Horowitz, Jamie Nelson, and Stefanie Bluemle, with assistance from other librarians, Special Collections student employees, Ann Boaden, and Kai Swanson.  Many thanks to Leslie DuPree and her team in web services for displaying the material in such a dazzling manner.

In addition to the information on the website, the library is pleased to announce that the full run of the Observer (1902 through the previous school year) has been digitized and is now available on our website, (  We anticipate that this will be a valuable resource for historical research for years to come.

We hope that you will continue to explore Augustana history throughout this celebration of our 150 years, and that you will learn something new or interesting about your department or emeritus faculty.  To make a historical inquiry, please contact one of us or
